Cenobio de Valeron's Caves

The complex of caves lying on a steep slope at various levels is located 5 kilometers to the east of Giyya in the north of the island. This is the most exciting place on the island, famous for its archaeological excavations. Under a thick layer of basalt, a tiered cave complex is hidden. About 300 caves are found in the soft tuff rock, reminiscent of a honeycomb.

The caves were used for grain storage, as well as worship. According to a legend, the indigenous inhabitants of the island sent Guanche elected fellow to spend a few years in a cave in complete seclusion to become a servant of God then abord, according to the other - a school of the future priestesses was located.

The complex is open from 10.00 to 17.00 from Wednesday to Sunday.
